Moulsford & South Stoke
Moulsford is the home of the celebrated Beetle and Wedge. They don't have much by way of moorings outside it, but if you want to organise a cruise for your club you should contact The Up River Angel for the telephone number of some friends who own the opposite bank. They let their moorings out free to clubs and groups passing through - you don't have to be eating at the Beetle & Wedge to use the moorings.
As well as being a restaurant with a world-wide reputation, the Beetle is also an hotel, with a warm, cozy atmosphere. Book with Kate Smith, or her staff, on 01491-651381. They only have 10 rooms, so it pays to book early. There are two restaurants at the hotel, the main dining room in the hotel itself, or The Boathouse. We haven't eaten in the hotel ourselves, but people who have recommend it highly. The Boathouse offers the very best of ingredients cooked to perfection, served with rosti potatoes and vegetables or ratatouille. You'll find a link for the hotels site in the links page.
If you're mooring at the hotel don't be surprised if the hotel cat, or even Merlin, their spaniel, come to greet you - one year the cat spent the day sleeping on Mariner! Just make sure you evict them before leaving if you are on a hotel mooring. If you don't see either of them, please don't ask after them - they are getting rather old and frail now, the cat especially.
