On the North side of the Thames, behind Taggs Island, you will find Tim Barfield Marine. Tim is an experienced engineer with good skills, but an unfortunate work-load. Because he is so popular it is often difficult to get your boat seen to by Tim himself, it can take a long time for the work to be done, and his employees don't always respect the boats as much as Tim. Tim is very obliging and will do his best to have your boat ready before a time limit if you need to go cruising. From Reading to Moulsford there are no engineering services, so be prepared to moor up and wait! Services are few and far between above Reading, and from Benson to Abingdon you'll find nothing at all. If you have any concerns about your boat or its engines you should really address them before heading up. Otherwise a good call out service is advisable, available from most large chandlers, or if you have a good relationship with a local engineer or boatbuilder, it might be worth asking if they will come out to you. Services for Oxford and Lechlade are listed as they may be more likely to come out to you than an overworked local engineer.
